A wee change

For some time now I’ve been toying with the idea of a wee rebranding exercise. This is not something I take lightly. ‘Peter A Bell’ has identified my blog for a decade. My background in corporate communication makes me reluctant to change. It’s one of the most basic rules of corporate imaging that you don’t mess with the brand. But that doesn’t stop me coming up with ideas. Brand creation is still something I enjoy. Whit a geek, eh! Truth is, like web design – which is another thing I did in a previous life – designing new brand images allows me to satisfy my creative urges even with my very limited artistic ability.

I got to thinking about rebranding again when the URL of this site was blocked by Fecaboko for breaching their ‘Community Standards’. One way around the issue might have been to change the URL. That brings its own problems. How would either of my fans know where to find my re branded blog? I could set up a redirect. But I have to assume Fecaboko’s blocker is able to peek at the destination. So that wouldn’t help. Would it be feasible to start from scratch and hope to be able to build up a new audience? How long might that take, if it happened at all?

As it turned out, Fecaboko lifted their ban. So that was no longer a reason for making the change. But I’d already made a start on the new look, including the purchase of a new domain. Should I bin the work and write off the expenditure? To be honest, there wasn’t that much work involved. I never had any intention of dramatically changing the look and functionality of the site. And the expenditure wasn’t exactly huge. But it seemed a bit of a waste.

The outcome of all this swithering and pondering is that I’m going for it. I’m going ahead with the rebranding. The new site will launch on Monday. Nobody has to do anything. The old URL will still work. And the blog will still look and feel much the same. There will be a new title and a logo. That’s all. I’m not telling you what the new title is. You’ll have to visit on Monday to find out.

No doubt a few of my readers will have views on my intention to re-brand. And an opinion on the changes once they’ve seen them.. As ever, I welcome all comments while reserving the right to summarily dismiss each and every one.

See you on Monday!
